Lockout/Tagout Services
Protect Your Employees from Hazardous Energy
Protect your employees from hazardous energy with OSHA and Cal/OSHA-compliant Lockout/Tagout programs, machine-specific procedures, employee training, machine guarding assessments, and annual inspections.
Need help building or updating your LOTO program?
Every year, hazardous energy incidents result in approximately 120 worker fatalities and 50,000 serious injuries in the United States. A properly implemented Lockout/Tagout program is one of OSHA's most effective injury prevention standards.
Written LOTO Programs
Customized written Lockout/Tagout programs designed to meet OSHA and Cal/OSHA requirements, including employee responsibilities, energy control procedures, contractor coordination, and safe lockout practices.
Machine-Specific LOTO Procedures
Generic instructions are not always enough. Plaid Safety evaluates each covered machine or equipment type and creates clear, machine-specific procedures that employees can follow in the field.
LOTO Training
Authorized employees who apply locks or tags and perform servicing, maintenance, cleaning, setup, adjustment, or unjamming work.
Affected employees who operate covered equipment or work in areas where LOTO activities are performed.
General Awareness Training for all employees.
Annual Periodic Inspections
- Employees are following the established procedure
- The procedure continues to provide effective protection
- Authorized employees understand their responsibilities
- Equipment or energy-isolation points have changed
- Written procedures need to be corrected or updated
Does Your LOTO Program Need Attention?
Your hazardous energy control program may need to be reviewed when:
- New machinery has been installed
- Equipment has been relocated or modified
- Energy-isolation points have changed
- Procedures are missing, outdated, or difficult to follow
- Employees have not received role-specific training
- Annual inspections have not been completed
- Contractors perform servicing or maintenance onsite
- Employees bypass guards or use alternative servicing methods
- A near miss, injury, or unexpected startup has occurred
- Cal/OSHA or OSHA has identified a compliance concern

Frequently asked questions
Here are some common questions about Lockout / Tagout
Lockout/Tagout is a hazardous energy control process used to prevent the unexpected startup, energization, or release of stored energy from machinery and equipment during covered servicing and maintenance activities.
Machine guarding and LOTO are separate safety controls. Machine guards protect employees during normal equipment operation, while LOTO generally protects employees during covered servicing and maintenance. A comprehensive machine-safety program should evaluate both.
Training requirements depend on an employee’s role. Authorized employees require detailed training on hazardous energy recognition and control. Affected and other employees require instruction appropriate to their potential interaction with locked- or tagged-out equipment.
Covered energy-control procedures must be inspected at least annually. Inspections should also be considered when equipment, processes, personnel, or energy-control methods change.
